200 years ago, a spinning mill was started at the old mill next to Slumpån in Sjuntorp. It was the beginning of a long journey that would not only affect Sjuntorp, it also laid the foundation for a piece of Swedish industrial history.
But the journey is far from over, today Tången continues to write Sjuntorp's industrial history with AB Sjuntorp and all associated business areas.

Sjuntorp has a fascinating history as a thriving textile industry community. Already in 1813, at the waterfall in Slumpån, Sweden's second cotton spinning mill started here. Since then, Sjuntorp's residents have worked hard to put the town on the map and experienced steady growth, both in terms of businesses and residents.

Anders W Gyzander is in a position to start a spinning mill and is looking for a place where he can get water power for his machines.
In Sjuntorp, next to the old mill at Slumpåfallet, he finds what he is looking for and starts Sjuntorps Spinneri AB. By the middle of the nineteenth century, the business took off. In addition to the spinning mill, agriculture, forestry and trade stalls were also operated.
The trading firm Johansson & Carlander takes over the business in Sjuntorp and starts AB Sjuntorp, which rapidly develops and grows strongly. Johannes Johansson changed the surname of his sons and daughters to Mark.
This year, Messrs. Johansson & Carlander form Gamlestadens Fabriker AB. The company employs a certain Sven Wingqvist who later develops the spherical ball bearing at the factory.
The spherical ball bearing turns out to be an extraordinary invention and thanks to it Johansson & Carlander decided on 16 February 1907 to start AB Svenska Kullagerfabriken.
Assar Gabrielsson and Gustaf Larsson work under Wingqvist. Assar and Gustaf go to the USA to sell ball bearings and visit the company Ford.
Ford makes a big impression on the men who start AB Volvo at home in Sweden.
Sven Wingqvist decides to try his own wings and starts up SAAB in Trollhättan.
During the time he runs SAAB, he is also chairman of NOHAB in Trollhättan.
During the 40s, AB Sjuntorp grew strongly and had a maximum of 1200 employees in 1948.
The company continues to be run, now by Ingvar and Halvar Mark. Ingvar's son Åke Mark became CEO in 1975 in the middle of the textile crisis.
AB Sjuntorp, which has made a number of investments to get out of the crisis, sells the company to Mikael Östlund AB, who continues to run the company until 1986, when it is decided to liquidate.
AB Sjuntorp is again in the family's ownership with the entrepreneur Thomas Mark as CEO and CEO.
In 2024, Tången AB acquires Sjuntorp. Today, Tången continues to write Sjuntorp's industrial history with all associated business areas.
